7 Common Sense Rules of Real Estate Investing
Aug 28, 2006 - 4:24:00 PM

The real meaning of Location, location, location – What an overused and misunderstood saying.  In real estate investing, “Location, location, location” really means finding the best location for real estate investment wherever it may be.  HINT: It is unlikely to be in your own local area unless you are one of the really fortunate ones.

Understand the Wave Analogy and expertly surf the Real Estate waters - Identify and anticipate general trends so that you can be ahead of the curve and catch the crest of the wave instead of the wave passing you by, or even worse, burying you when it breaks.

“OPM”-They want you to use it so use it wisely - Use leverage in investing (often referred to as Other People’s Money) whenever it is made available to you.

Know what to do before you buy - Have a plan.  Simply “buying a piece of real estate” does not qualify as a plan.

Convince Yourself - If you can’t give yourself at least 2 or 3 solid, objective reasons for making a real estate investment, then you shouldn’t be making it.

Take Control of Your Investments – Not to knock forms of investment other than real estate, but most other investments do not give you such control over the investment outcome.

Don’t Follow the Herd – When it comes to places to make real estate investments, the herd will go where others show them it is safe to go.  The trick is to get to those places before the herd arrives.
